Passing by a regular shop, I noticed the shopkeeper packing empty cigarette boxes for disposal.
I approached him and brought them home to use for my DIY Bedroom Wall Hanging Decor Project.
They were perfect to craft a piece of brick wall as the base of the DIY decor project.
These boxes became the ideal material for creating a brick wall design, setting the foundation for my DIY project.
Next, I began gathering all the necessary items for crafting.
The end result? A stunning decor piece that stands out.

In this article, I’ve detailed the materials used, step-by-step instructions, and included images for your guidance.
Plus I have also included a video walkthrough of this project for better understanding.
Let’s take a quick look into the list of things I’ve used first followed by step-by-step instructions.
Things I’ve used for this DIY Bedroom Wall Hanging Decor Project
- Empty Cigarette Boxes: To make the main base of the decor I’ve used the empty cigarette boxes.
- Hot Glue Gun: To stick them together and to speed up the process I used a hot glue gun.
- Acrylic Paint and a Paintbrush: To paint the decor base I’ve used a few shades of Acrylic paint.
- Dual Sided Tape: To mount the decor I have used a dual sided tape.
- Artificial Decor: I used artificial green bush to add a green touch to the bedroom decor.
- Air Dry Clay: To post a message over the decor item I used a lump of handmade air dry clay for letter crafting.
- Lighting Strip: To add more ambiance I’ve placed a strip of lighting around the decor item.
With all the things ready let’s dive right into this DIY Wall Hanging Bedroom Decor Project.
Step 1: Setting the decor pattern

First, I arranged the empty boxes to form a few patterns and finalized one that looked good to me.
Also the number of empty boxes were a good fit for this particular base pattern as seen in the image 1.2 above.
Step 2: Gluing the boxes together

Next step is to glue the cigarette boxes together as per the finalized pattern.
I used a hot glue gun to stick them together from the hidden edges.
Although it took some of my time to stick the 25 empty boxes together, it was the need of the hour.
I did it patiently and finally stuck them together to form a perfect decor base.
Step 3: Covering the base using tissue paper

Before painting the base with acrylic colors, I covered it with tissue papers.
Doing this helps to give textured effects after I apply the acrylic paint.
Next, I mixed PVA glue and mixed a little water and stirred it well.
Then, I placed a sheet of tissue paper over the decor’s base and brushed the glue mixture over it as seen in image 3.3 above.
With the help of the paintbrush I was able to spread the solution properly.
To do this step you will need some patience and also you’ll need to go slow.
If you’re doing the same step then simply avoid over wetting the tissue or else it will tear apart and you’ll have to repeat the step again.
Another way is to apply the glue solution of the base and then place the tissue paper sheets.
After all the hard work, especially settling all the edges I left it to dry.
Step 4: Application of Acrylic Color

The tissue paper layer appeared smooth and settled on the decor’s base.
Next, I painted the base to mimic a brick wall, using various color combinations.
Quick Tip: Ensure the tissue is fully dry before painting.
Step 5: Shading the brick borders

At this point, the paint on the base has dried, signaling it’s time to accentuate the brick borders.
I opted for silver paint to highlight them, but white or gray would work as well.
Then I carefully shaded each visible brick border.
And then, I allowed it to dry for 20 minutes approx.
Step 6: Crafting Letters with Clay

In this step, I used homemade air-dry clay.
Taking a lump of clay, I rolled it out and shaped it into letters.
Once done, I attached them to the decor’s base.
Since this decor was intended for my bedroom, I decided to include a message for a cozy vibe. The final touch was adding “Sweet Dreams” to enhance its charm.
Step 7: Sticking the Clay letters

I’ve stuck the letters with the help of PVA glue one by one.
The final outcome can be seen in the images above, here I’ve placed the decor flat to dry.
Step 8: Enhancing the Decor

With the elements now dry, it was time to enhance the decor.
I carefully placed green bushes around it, one by one.
Surrounding the base with a strip light, I aimed to create a cozy ambiance in my living room, especially at night.
To display the decor, I mounted it near my bed using double-sided tape (A temporary fixture before making a final placement).

It looks so amazing and has added a touch of ambiance I’d desired of, plus it also acted like a night lamp.

Final Thoughts
By repurposing empty cigarette boxes, the project evolved into a unique brick wall design, adding character to the bedroom.
The meticulous process of crafting the base, painting it with textured effects, and highlighting brick borders demonstrates the attention to detail in creating a visually appealing decor item.
Incorporating air-dry clay for personalized messages and adding greenery and lighting further enhanced the ambiance of the room.
One would hardly believe there are empty boxes of cigarettes hidden behind the decor.
The main idea of using the empty boxes of cigarettes was to form a thick base and to add the brick effect.
