I Converted A Fan Blade Into A Kitchen Hanging Organizer!

Crafting crazy stuff is a never ending joy especially for DIY enthusiasts like me.

With your creativity, you can transform items you deem useless into unique and functional pieces.

As an example, I repurposed the blade of a faulty ceiling fan into a practical kitchen tool holder.

Converted A Fan Blade Into A Kitchen Hanging Organizer

To guide you through the process, I have provided step-by-step instructions along with supporting images in the article below, allowing you to replicate the idea.

Let’s take a quick look at the materials I used, followed by the core steps involved in creating this kitchen organizer pocket.

Step 1: Things I’ve used for making kitchen wall hanging organizer

Step 1 - Things I've used for making kitchen wall hanging organizer
  • Ceiling Fan Blade: I’ve used the blade of a faulty ceiling fan as the base of the kitchen tools holder. My wife was about to trash it away and it took my attention so I kept it aside for this project.
  • Cloth Carry Bag: To cover the fan’s blade I’ve used the cloth of a carry bag. It’s a standard carry bag we’ve got from our local supermarket while shopping.
  • Needle and Thread: To sew the cover of the fan blade I’ve used needle and thread.
  • Velvet pieces of cloth: To make the pockets I’ve used pieces of thick velvet cloth.
  • Hot Glue Gun: To stick the pockets to the base I’ve used a hot glue gun.

Step 2: Removing the sewed stitches from shopping bag

Step 2 - Removing the sewed stitches from shopping bag

First things first, I had to undo the stitching on the shopping bag to expand it to match the size of the fan blade.

After successfully removing the stitches, I laid out the cloth on the floor (as seen in 2.3 above).

The next step is to align the fan to accurately cut out the required sizes.

Step 3: Cutting the cloth size

Step 3 - Cutting the cloth size

I’ve aligned the blade of the fan over the cloth to obtain the accurate size.

As you see in the image 3.2 above, I’ve got the proper size to wrap the fan blade.

With the proper measurements in hand, it was time to trim off the excess fabric using a pair of scissors (as seen in image 3.2 above).

Step 4: Sewing the Blade cover

Step 4 - Sewing the Blade cover

Next up, I sewed the cover from two sides using the needle and thread.

You will need to sew it straight and by applying smaller stitches as seen in the image 4.2 above.

After completing the sewing process, it was time to turn the cover inside out.

After meticulously aligning the cover alongside the fan blade, I was satisfied with its appropriate size.

You can opt for a larger size while stitching, as you can always trim it down if needed.

Now, since I’ve got the perfect size, it’s time to push the blade into the cover.

Step 5: Wrapping the fan blade

Step 5 - Wrapping the fan blade

I pushed the fan blade through the open side, ensuring a perfect fit, just like the flawless alignment you see in image 5.2 above.

Following that, I strategically positioned pieces of red and black velvet cloth to create the pockets, setting the stage for the upcoming steps.

Step 6: Making the Pockets

Step 6 - Making the Pockets

Following the earlier steps, I ended up with one red and two black cloth pieces.

Now, aligning the red pocket to the center, I started by bending its sides and securing them with a hot glue gun.

After that, I positioned it in the middle, gluing the base part as shown in image 6.3 above.

The final touch involved attaching the glued base to the decor’s base.

It’s crucial not to glue the top portion since it serves as the open side of the pocket.

Step 7: Glue it onto the Back

Step 7 - Glue it onto the Back

Next in line was gluing the extra portion of the pocket to the back of the fan’s blade.

Flipping it upside down, I began by applying glue to the side edges of the cloth.

Bringing them together, I repeated the same process for the remaining black pockets.

Step 8: Add a touch of decor

Step 8 - Add a touch of decor

If you take a look at the image 8.1 above, it looks striking to the eyes after fixing all the three pockets.

However, desiring an extra touch, I opted to elevate its appearance by adding a sparkling ribbon to the pocket borders.

Using the trusty glue gun, I meticulously attached the ribbon to the edges of each pocket, one by one.

Step 9: Mounting Handle

Step 9 - Mounting Handle

I have used a decorative rope and curved it into a designer knot and stuck it using the hot glue gun.

I have made the same for all the three pockets.

Next up, I pushed the thread through the holes available over the fan’s blade for mounting purposes.

And then I’ve tied knots and it’s all ready to be mounted in the kitchen.

Final Thoughts

This repurposed ceiling fan blade organizer proved to be a sturdy and long-lasting solution for storing kitchen tools and other kitchen items.

At first, nobody could make out if it was actually crafted over the blade of a ceiling fan.

So, next time if you find yourself replacing a ceiling fan, consider repurposing the blades instead of discarding them.

Additionally, personalizing the organizer with paint or embellishments can make it a truly one-of-a-kind piece that reflects your style and taste.

This not only promotes sustainability but also offers a unique and practical solution for organizing your kitchen tools.

Whether you choose to use it for yourself or as a thoughtful gift, this DIY project adds both functionality and a touch of creativity to your space.
