Hey, I’ve got a quick question for you.
Have you ever felt that surge of pride when you see your national flag waving in the wind? Now, imagine capturing that feeling in a fun, creative project you can do with your kids.
I’m talking about a handprint Indian flag craft that’ll not only teach them about patriotism but also give them a chance to get their hands dirty (in a good way).
Trust me, I’ve done this with my own kids, and the look on their faces when they saw their handprints transformed into our national colors was priceless.
Want to know how to make this happen in just 7 minutes? Let me walk you through it.
First, let’s take a quick look at the list of basic craft materials you’ll need for this handprint Indian flag.
Step 1: Things You’ll Need for Handprint Indian Flag
- Craft Papers: I have used colorful craft papers to cut the handprint shapes, make sure to use the orange, white, and green shades for the Tricolor.
- Bamboo Stick: I have used a bamboo stick as the base pole of the tricolor flag. You can use a similar stick as the base pole of the handprint flag.
- Scissor: To cut the handprint shapes from craft papers you will need a scissor.
- Glue: To stick the paper handprint cutouts and other elements you can use a multipurpose glue for best results.
- Blue Marker Pen: I have used a dark blue marker pen to draw the Ashoka Chakra over the white handprint.
- Ready Template: You can outline the handprints of the participating children to their excitement or simply use our ready template from our website. To access the free template you can move to step number two below.
Estimated Time Taken to make the Handprint craft for the Independence Day: It took just 7 minutes for me to make a handprint paper craft for the Independence Day.
Step 2: Handprint Template
If you look at the image above this is what the handprint template looks like. It includes the colorful handprint shapes required to make the structure.
With just a few clicks, you can easily download and print the template, allowing you to cut out the shapes and dive into the activity right away.
By using this ready-made template, you can skip the hassle of searching for colorful craft papers and reduce waste.
Step 3: Cutting The Handprint Shapes
If for any reason you decide not to use the ready-made template, you can easily create your own by taking colorful craft papers and tracing the handprints directly onto them.
Use a pencil to outline the handprints, then simply cut out the shapes with a standard pair of scissors.
Step 4: Drawing The Ashoka Chakra
If you are using the ready-made template, you can skip this step since it already features the Ashoka Chakra.
However, if you manually cut out the shapes from colorful craft papers, you’ll need to draw the Ashoka Chakra on the white handprint.
To do this, use a dark blue marker to create a circle, then add the lines as shown in image 4 above.
Step 5: Highlighting The Base Pole
Finally, it’s time to prepare the flagpole, so grab a bamboo stick.
While applying paint to the bamboo stick is optional, I chose to shade mine with dark green paint for an added touch.
Step 6: Assemble Them All
Once you have all the elements of the handprint flag ready, it’s time to assemble them.
I’ve positioned the white handprint cutout in the center, flanked by the orange and green handprints on either side.
You can arrange them similarly to how they appear in image 6.2 above.
Next, glue the edges of the handprints together.
Finally, secure them to the bamboo stick by using clear tape on the back or applying multipurpose glue.
You can also use a triangular or round piece of cardboard as the base and creatively arrange the handprints on it.

Final Thoughts
Look, I’ve been in the trenches of parenting, and I know how tough it can be to find activities that are both fun and meaningful.
This handprint Indian flag craft not only teaches kids about their heritage, but it also gives them a tangible way to express their patriotism.
I’ve seen firsthand how this simple 7-minute project can light up a child’s eyes and spark conversations about national pride.
Trust me, in a world where screens dominate, these hands-on experiences are gold.
Your kids will thank you, and you might just rediscover your own sense of national pride along the way.
