Remember those rainy afternoons spent glued to the TV? Yeah, me neither.
These days, keeping little ones entertained indoors can be a challenge.
This where this paper snake craft for kids can be a real like savior.
It’s cheap, easy, and keeps those creative minds occupied for ages.
Plus, bonus points: it’s adorable!
In this post I will walk you through everything you need to turn a simple sheet of paper into a wiggly, slithering friend for your little one.
So, without wasting any time, gather your construction paper or card paper, scissors and glue and get ready for some mess-free crafting fun.
Step 1: The Making of Paper Snake Template
To create this paper snake template, I employed my imagination and used a pencil to sketch the outlines of the snake’s structure, including its intricate details and shading.
Then, I used a dark marker to trace the outlines to finalize the template.
Step 2: Downloading The Paper Snake Template
I’ve made the paper snake template free to download on our site for your convenience.
You can easily get crafting by downloading and printing the template with just a few clicks.
Step 3: Cutting the Shapes
With the template in hand, it’s time to cut out the shapes and patterns from vibrant-colored paper sheets.
For the paper snake, I opted for a combination of yellow, fluorescent orange, and purple hues.
That being said, you’re free to select your own color palette to personalize your paper snake.
Step 4: The Assembling of the Shapes
Alright, with all the snake pieces cut out (the base and the colorful scales) let’s get to assembling.
First things first, I laid down the snake’s body as the base.
Now, here comes the fun part, the scales.
I went with some eye-catching fluorescent orange, but you can choose whatever color pops for you.
I didn’t stick them right next to each other though, I left some space between each strip. That’s where some cool purple shapes will come in later.
Fun Fact: Did you know that real snakes come in a dazzling array of colors and patterns, just like yours? And due to their ability to regulate rodent populations, snakes are essential to ecosystems. While some snakes are venomous, most aren’t, and even the venomous ones only use their venom for defense or hunting.
Step 5: Aligning the purple shades
With all the vibrant orange scales in place, it’s time for the purple accents.
I started by sticking a long, straight purple strip along the snake’s tail, then continued working my way up the body.
Don’t worry if some of the purple pieces look a little oversized just use scissors to carefully trim them down to fit the snake’s shape.
And guess what? We’re almost done!
Just a few more steps and our paper pal will be complete.
Step 6: Fixing the eyes and Tongue
The last step is to add some personality with eyes and a tongue to our paper snake.
I punched out some big, white circles for the eyes (the bigger the better, trust me).
Then, I used a marker to add a black dot in the center for that classic snake look.
Next came the tongue, I simply drew a curvy red line and stuck it to the edge of one of the eyes.
Voila! Our paper snake is complete and ready to slither around the house, looking fierce (but totally non-venomous!) thanks to its bright colors.
