Additional notes:

  • I recommend using the pre-colored template for a quicker craft.
  • Cutting the tiny leg shapes might be a bit challenging, so keep that in mind if doing this craft with very young children.

Step 1: Paper Sparrow Template Source

Step 1 - Preparing The Paper Sparrow Template

To start making your paper sparrow, you’ll need the cutouts of its body parts.

First, download the template from my blog and then print the template followed by cutting out the shapes.

If you look at the image above, you’ll see what the paper sparrow template looks like.

I’ve made the templates available in two versions i.e. One is pre-colored, and the other has blank outlines.

The blank template is perfect if you want to customize your sparrow and add your own colors.

Step 2: Cutting the Shapes

Step 2 - Cutting the Shapes

Once you’ve finalized the paper sparrow shape, print it out and start cutting the pieces.

In the image above, I used the pre-colored template with shades that match a real sparrow.

Step 3: Assembling the Structure

Step 3 - Assembling the Structure

Once I had the cutouts ready, it was time to assemble the structure of the paper sparrows.

I began by aligning and sticking the dark brown shade over the sparrow’s head.

Applying glue to the back of the sparrow’s head, I carefully affixed the brown shade.

Next, I applied glue to the beak cutout and precisely positioned it in place.

Step 4: Fixing the Legs and Wings

Step 4 - Fixing the Legs and Wings

Now, it was time to attach the sparrow’s wing and its tiny legs.

Cutting the small shapes of the sparrow’s legs proved a bit challenging, but I found that moving the scissors slowly was the key.

Afterward, I applied glue to the back of the wings and carefully affixed them over the sparrow’s body structure.

Then, I applied glue to each tiny leg, one by one, and positioned them from behind the structure.

Step 5: Fixing the Tail Feathers

Step 5 - Fixing the Tail Feathers

Sparrows usually have tail feathers pointing upwards, so I aligned and stuck them accordingly.

This step marked the final stage of the paper sparrow craft.

First, I adhered the feathers together as shown in image 5.1 above.

Then, I aligned and stuck the complete tail feathers just above the wings, slightly angled upward.

With that, the paper sparrow craft was complete, and the structure looked incredibly adorable (Below is how it looks).
