In just 15 minutes, you’ll learn how to transform simple craft supplies into something truly special.

It’s not just about creating a decoration, it’s about connecting with heritage, unleashing creativity, and proving that powerful statements can come from the most unexpected places.

Ready to make some magic with sticks and paint? Let’s jump in and see how ordinary items become extraordinary symbols.

But first, let’s take a quick look at the things you’ll need to make the Indian flag structure in step 1 below.

Step 1: Things You’ll Need For Popsicle Stick Indian Flag

Step 1 - Things You'll Need For Popsicle Stick Indian Flag
  • Popsicle Sticks: I have used popsicle sticks to represent the tricolor flag of India. I have made two flags using 6 popsicle sticks for each flag. To make a similar structure like mine you will need at least 12 popsicle sticks.
  • Bamboo sticks: I have used two bamboo sticks as the pole of the two flags. You can use the same or a similar stick as the flag’s pole.
  • Decorative Thread: To add a touch of decor I have used a golden thread to wrap the poles of the flags.
  • Color and Paintbrush: To paint the popsicle sticks I have used regular watercolor with tricolor shades such as orange, white, and green.
  • Blue Marker: I have used a dark blue marker pen to draw the Ashoka Chakra.
  • Glue: To fix the popsicle sticks together you will need glue such as a multipurpose glue or a hot glue gun will do the trick.

Estimated Time Taken to Craft the Popsicle Sticks Tricolor Flag: It took 15 minutes for me to craft this unique independence day tricolor flag.

Step 2: Preparing Popsicle Stick Sets

Step 2 - Preparing Popsicle Stick Sets

To make a single flag, I used 6 popsicle sticks i.e. 2 sticks for each color: orange, white, and green. In other words, for 2 flags, I used a total of 12 popsicle sticks.

So, I stuck 2 popsicle sticks together to create a similar set of 6 as seen in above images.

In the images 2.1 and 2.2 above, you can see the sets I made, which I secured using a hot glue gun.

The hot glue dried quickly, so I didn’t have to wait long to continue with the craft activity.

Step 3: Paint Them Tricolour

Step 3 - Paint Them Tricolour

Next, I painted the popsicle sticks using the tricolor shades.

For the two flags, I painted the sets of two popsicle sticks in orange, white, and green.

I used regular watercolor and a standard paintbrush for this task, but you could also use highlighters or marker pens to achieve the same effect.

In the images 3.1 and 3.2 above, you can see that the sets were ready, and I let them dry for about 5 minutes under the running fan.

Step 4: Drawing The Ashoka Chakra

The paint on the popsicle sticks looks dry, which means it’s time to draw the Ashoka Chakra in the center of the white popsicle sticks.

I used a dark blue marker pen to create the design on both sets of white sticks.

Next, I glued and attached the tricolor sets to complete the flag structure. I allowed them to dry for a while before adding the poles.

Step 5: Assembling The Poles

Step 5 - Assembling The Poles

The popsicle stick flag structure was ready, so it was time to assemble the poles.

I quickly grabbed some bamboo sticks to use as the poles for the two flags.

After aligning them, I applied hot glue to the joining edges to ensure they stuck together firmly and quickly.

If you look at the final image above, you’ll see that I surrounded the poles with golden decorative thread.

Adding the golden thread was like the finishing touch, making it all come together beautifully.

Finally, I mounted the structure on the entrance door using double-sided tape.
