Simple Origami Paper Bunny (Easter Craft Ideas for Kids)

Making origami paper bunnies is quite easy and you can get the accurate shapes by applying the right folds.

Crafting these with children as an Easter-themed activity can be an excellent idea to keep them engaged and surely be a delightful experience.

I have crafted a few origami paper bunnies in the past which looked a bit complex to make but this one is simple and fairly straightforward.

Editor’s Note: In addition to this version, I created two more variations of the bunny. One is more visually appealing (Video) and the other version is made of cotton balls (Video).

Step 1: Applying Folds

Step 1 - Applying Folds

For this craft, I used a yellow fluorescent origami paper to craft the bunny. However, you can use any color or simply white paper to craft it.

I made sure to use a square-shaped paper of equal length and breadth so that I get proper even folds.

First, I folded the paper in half to obtain the center line and then I folded the two sides and brought them to the center of the sheet as seen in the image 1.3 above.

Step 2: Forming a triangular Tip

Step 2 - Forming a triangular Tip

I folded the corners and formed triangular tips over the folded sheet.

I did it on both ends of the paper as seen in the above images( 2.1 and 2.2).

Step 3: Pushing the Triangular Shape

Step 3 - Pushing the Triangular Shape

To push the triangular shape in, I first unfolded the triangular edges which I had folded in the above step.

Due to the previous straight folds, it had enough flexibility to be pushed inside.

Using my fingers, I then pushed the triangular edges inside one by one.

Similarly, I did it on the other side of the sheet as seen in the above images.

Step 4: Narrowing one edge

Step 4 - Narrowing one edge

Now, I folded the sides from one end and brought them to the center as per the above images.

By doing this, one end became narrow, and I left the other end as it was.

Step 5: Folding it to the back

Step 5 - Folding it to the back

I folded the narrow side backwards and flipped the crafted structure. It was time to work on the other end, which I did in the following steps.

Step 6: Forming the Bunny’s Body

Step 6 - Forming the Bunny's Body

I applied a small fold to the tip on the other end and then keeping the folded tip inside, I folded the structure in half from the center as seen in image 6.2 above (This formed the structure of the bunny’s body).

Step 7: Shaping the bunny ears and legs

Step 7 - Shaping the bunny ears and legs

I pulled the long wing-like panels upwards to form the ears of the bunny as seen in image 7.2 above.

Next, I pushed the tip of the other end (tail-end) from inside and downward.

This formed the bunny’s legs as seen in image 7.2 above.

Step 8: Curving the Bunny’s back

Step 8 - Curving the Bunny's back

Next up, I curved the bunny’s back by pushing the pointed tip inside.

First, I folded it on the outer sides to gain flexibility, which made the task of pushing it inside easier.

And then, I pushed the pointed tip with my fingers and pressed the edges so that it stayed firmly in its place.

The origami paper bunny structure was now ready, and it was time to shade its eyes and nose.

Step 9: Drawing its Nose and Eyes

Step 9 - Drawing its Nose and Eyes

For the eyes and nose, I used a black marker pen.

I drew them on both sides to complete the origami paper bunny. As an alternative to drawing the eyes, you could stick on googly eyes or use beads.
