Today, I’m going to show you how to create stunning tulip flowers using an ingredient you probably have in your pantry right now i.e. pistachio shells.
That’s right, those discarded shells you usually toss are about to become the star of your next DIY project.
In just 15 minutes, you can transform these humble nutshells into a beautiful bouquet that will have everyone asking, “How did you do that?”
Trust me, you’ll never look at pistachios the same way again.
Before we begin let’s quickly go through the list of materials you’ll need to make Tulip flower craft using pistachio shells in step 1 below.
Step 1: Things You’ll Need To Make Pistachio Shells Tulip Flower
- Pistachio (Pista) Shells: To craft the Tulip Flowers you will need clean Pistachio or Pista Shells. The number of shells depends on the count of flowers you want to make.
- Broom Sticks: To make the stem of the flowers you can use the thin broom sticks (Coconut Leaf Sticks).
- Color and Paintbrush: To shade the Pista Shells and the broom sticks you can use acrylic paint or regular water colors and a paintbrush.
- Scissor And Green paper for the stem
- Multipurpose Adhesive or Hot Glue Gun: To stick the Pista Shells, stem, and the paper leaves you will need glue. For Pista Shells you can use a hot glue gun and for the rest a multipurpose glue will do the trick.
Estimated Time taken to make the Pistachio Shells Tulip Flowers: It took 15 minutes for me to make the bunch of Tulip Flowers using Pistachio Shells (Includes the time taken for painting and drying time of the elements).
Step 2: Preparing The Stem
Since I love making artificial flowers, I always keep some broomsticks painted green for stems.
You’ll need to paint yours the same way to use as tulip stems.
It’s best to start with the painting so the colors have time to dry evenly while you work on the other parts.
Paint the sticks green, then lay them on a newspaper to dry for a while.
Step 3: Shading The Pistachio Shells
Since we have a few more painting tasks to complete, let’s finish them off.
I’ve grabbed some pistachio shells and bottles of red and yellow acrylic paint.
Using a paintbrush, I’ll paint the shells one color at a time and set them aside to dry.
When using acrylics, be sure to wash your hands and brushes thoroughly.
I’ve left a few pistachio shells unpainted to use as a different shade.
Step 4: Preparing The Leaves
While the painted elements are drying, let’s prepare the tulip leaves.
I used green craft paper to cut out long leaf shapes similar to those of tulip plants.
Cut as many as you need and set them aside for assembly later.
Step 5: Assembling The Flower Structure
The paint on the pistachio shells has dried, and the colors look vibrant.
Now, it’s time to assemble the shells into tulip flower shapes.
I took a broomstick and applied hot glue to its edges, attaching a pistachio shell.
Quickly, I applied glue to the other side and attached another shell, recreating the joined look of an uncracked pistachio.
Then, I glued two more shells to the sides to complete the tulip flower structure.
You can refer to image 5.2 above for a visual guide. Now, we have tulip flowers in three different shades, with the stems securely in place.
Step 6: Attaching The Leaves
Let’s take the leaf shapes we prepared earlier and arrange them around the stem.
Using multipurpose glue, attach them to the bottom edges one by one.
Allow the glue to dry completely, and there you have your pistachio shell tulip flowers ready.
If you look at the final image above, you can see how beautiful these artificial tulip flowers turned out (Looks cool).
Final Thoughts
While the steps to make this pistachio shell tulip flower is fairly straightforward, consider exploring variations such as using different shell types or creating mixed bouquets with other materials.
Experiment with color combinations to match various decor styles or seasons.
These crafts could be excellent for children’s activities, fostering creativity and environmental awareness.
If you are someone who is into selling flowers or craft work consider selling these unique flowers at craft fairs or online marketplaces.
To enhance durability, I would say apply a clear sealant over the finished flowers.
For a more realistic appearance, add fabric or paper stamens.
